These vegetarian keto cakes contain 11g of carbs and are high in protein. They are cooked in the microwave for a quick and easy dessert or snack.
Are These Keto Mug Cakes Gluten-Free?
Yes, these cakes are gluten-free. They are made with almond flour so if you have an intolerance then these are perfect for you.

Ingredients You'll Need
- 1 Egg- The binding agent that holds the mug cake together while also giving it lift and structure. It provides moisture and helps the cake set properly as it cooks in the microwave.
- 1 tablespoon Heavy Whipping Cream- Adds richness and a creamy texture, keeping the mug cake moist and soft rather than dry or crumbly.
- 1/4 teaspoon Almond Extract- Provides a subtle nutty sweetness that enhances the flavor of the almond flour and gives the cake a pleasant aroma.
- 1/3 cup Almond Flour- The main low-carb flour substitute that forms the body of the cake. It provides a soft crumb similar to traditional cake while keeping the recipe gluten-free and keto-friendly.
- 1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon Swerve- A keto-friendly sweetener that mimics sugar’s sweetness without spiking blood sugar levels. It balances the flavors and gives the cake a dessert-like finish.
- 1/4 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon- Adds warmth and depth of flavor to the base mug cake, giving it a cozy, slightly spiced note.
- 1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder- The leavening agent that helps the mug cake rise quickly in the microwave, creating a light and fluffy texture.
You can then easily add in other ingredients to make a different flavored keto mug cake:
- Chocolate Mug Cake Variation
- 2 teaspoons Cocoa Powder- Introduces rich chocolate flavor and a touch of bitterness that complements the sweetness of the Swerve. It also deepens the color and aroma of the cake.
- Peanut Butter Mug Cake Variation
- 1 tablespoon Peanut Butter (omit cinnamon)- Adds creamy texture, nutty flavor, and extra fat for a rich, satisfying cake. Skipping the cinnamon lets the peanut butter flavor shine through.
- Almond Berry Cake Variation
Omit Cinnamon, add ½ teaspoon Almond Extract, and 6–8 Berries of Choice- The additional almond extract enhances the nutty profile, while the fresh or frozen berries add moisture, tartness, and natural sweetness, creating a lighter, fruitier dessert option.

Tips and Tricks for Mug Cake Recipes
Making Keto Mug Cakes is one of the quickest and most satisfying ways to enjoy a low-carb dessert, but getting the perfect texture and flavor takes a little know-how. Here are some helpful tips and tricks to ensure your mug cakes turn out light, fluffy, and delicious every time:
- Gently pushing down the keto cake batter helps get an even rise and a better looking mug cake.
- Cleaning around the top of the cup after you have mixed and before you cook also helps a lot.
- This recipe works well with any sized mug, but if you want it to rise to the top of the mug then you need one that holds around 1 cup of liquid.
- If you are making the berry mug cake it is easier to mix in a second bowl and transfer to the mug, the three other variants all mix easily in a mug.

What To Enjoy With Keto Mug Cake
A Keto Mug Cake is delicious on its own, but pairing it with the right toppings or sides can take this simple dessert to the next level. Whether you prefer something creamy, crunchy, or refreshing, here are some tasty ideas to enjoy alongside your mug cake:
- Low Carb Whipped Cream- Adds a light, airy sweetness that balances the richness of the mug cake perfectly.
- Keto Ice Cream- A scoop of low-carb vanilla, chocolate, or peanut butter ice cream turns your mug cake into a decadent dessert sundae.
- Fresh Berries- Strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries add natural sweetness and a burst of freshness without too many carbs.
How Long Do They Last?
These mug cakes are best eaten right when they are made. After all, they only take a few minutes in the microwave to make, so why make them ahead of time?
The longer you wait to eat them after they're made, the soggier and more deflated they become.
Can You Freeze Them?
For longer storage, you can freeze individual mug cakes (without toppings). Wrap each one in plastic wrap and place them in a freezer-safe bag or container for up to 1 month.
Thaw overnight in the fridge, then warm briefly in the microwave before serving.

Made the berry version using raspberries and a comparable substitute I had on hand instead of Swerve. Love it! Not overpoweringly sweet, simply perfect!
Didi
I made the peanut butter mug cake and sprinkled some chocolate pieces on top and it was delicious! I used stevia sweetener instead and turned out perfect.
