This High Protein Jello Mousse is a light, creamy, no-bake dessert made with sugar-free Jello, Greek yogurt, and protein powder. It takes only a few minutes to blend and can be customized with strawberry, cherry, orange, or any other Jello flavor you enjoy.

Here's Why High Protein Jello Mousse Works

- Easy. Dissolve, blend, pour, and refrigerate for a simple low carb recipe.
- High Protein. Greek yogurt and protein powder add protein to each serving.
- No Bake. No oven or complicated cooking is required.

While some people choose to stay away from artificially sweetened foods and drinks while following a Keto lifestyle, I love having these options. Read more about the best Keto sweeteners (and which to avoid).
Ingredients You'll Need
- Sugar-Free Jello. Provides the flavor, sweetness, color, and gelatin needed for the mousse to set. You'll want to use the small, 3-ounce box.
- Water. Dissolves and activates the gelatin. Water between 122F and 144F is the ideal temperature for the perfect texture.
- Greek Yogurt. Creates a creamy texture while adding protein. I prefer a full-fat variety for a tasty fat bomb.
- Unflavored Protein Powder. Increases the protein content without competing with the Jello flavor. Add one scoop (serving) of your favorite brand. The amount/weight will vary depending on brand.
How To Make Sugar Free Jello Mousse
This Keto Mousse is an extremely easy dessert to prepare, but you do need to have some patience and follow the steps exactly. Use the steps below, along with the tips and tricks, to get the perfect fluffy high protein bite.

Heat the water. You'll want the water to be hot, but not boiling. A temperature between 122F and 144F is the sweet spot. You can test this with a kitchen thermometer.

Dissolve the gelatin. Whisk for about two minutes, until no granules remain.
Cool if necessary. Allow the jello to cool for about 10 minutes so that it can come to room temperature. If the mixture is too hot, it can cause the yogurt to separate when added.

Add the yogurt and protein powder. Add the Greek yogurt straight from the refrigerator and one serving of your favorite unflavored protein powder (the scoop size/weight will vary depending on the brand used) to your room-temperature jello.

Blend until aerated. Whisk vigorously or use a hand mixer for 2 minutes until all of the ingredients are combined.

Portion the mousse. Divide it among four ramekins that are at least 4 ounces each.

Chill until set. Chill for 1-2 hours, or until fully set before serving.
Why Didn’t My Jello Mousse Set?
If your Jello mousse did not set properly, one of these common preparation issues may be the cause:
- The gelatin did not dissolve completely. Whisk the sugar-free Jello into the warm water until no granules remain.
- The wrong amount of water was used. Too much water can prevent the mousse from becoming firm.
- The mixture was not blended thoroughly. Blend until the yogurt and protein powder are completely incorporated and the mixture looks smooth.
- The mousse needs more time to chill. Refrigerate it until fully set, extending the chilling time if necessary.
- An ingredient substitution changed the texture. Different types of yogurt and protein powder can affect how quickly and firmly the mousse sets.
Tips and Tricks for Making This High Protein Jello Mousse
- Patience. The most important thing about getting this jello mousse recipe right is to be patient and make absolutely sure the gelatin is completely dissolved in the water before you start. If you don't do this, you will have granules in your mousse, and that will impact the texture of your bite.
- Whisk. Use a flat silicone whisk or a hand blender to aerate this mousse as much as possible for a light and fluffy bite.
- Variety. Vary the flavors to get different desserts. In the images above, I used an orange jello, but I love the flavor of strawberry or cherry to create a lovely pink mousse.
- Blend well. Blend for plenty of time to aerate the dessert and get a light, airy, mousse-like texture. If it doesn't feel like it's fluffy enough, give the blending a bit longer and it will come together.
Variations
Once you have the basic method down, change the Jello flavor, yogurt, or protein powder to create a different high-protein dessert each time.
- Strawberry Cheesecake- Use strawberry Jello and vanilla protein powder.
- Orange Creamsicle- Combine orange Jello with vanilla protein powder.
- Black Cherry- Use black cherry Jello and unflavored protein powder.
- Lemon Mousse- Use lemon Jello and garnish with lemon zest.
- Extra Creamy- Replace a small amount of yogurt with softened cream cheese, adjusting the nutrition information.
- With Toppings- Add berries, homemade whipped cream, or a spoonful of Greek yogurt before serving.
How Long Does It Last?
Since this sugar free Jello mousse is homemade, it should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator and consumed within 3-5 days.
It's always important to use your own judgment and senses to determine whether the sugar free Jello mousse has gone bad. If you notice any signs of spoilage, such as a strange smell or appearance, it's best to discard it.
Yes, you can make this Jello mousse without protein powder. The gelatin should still set when combined with the Greek yogurt, but the finished dessert will contain less protein per serving. The texture may also be slightly softer, so allow it to chill completely before serving.
Yes, regular Jello can be used in place of sugar-free Jello as long as you use the same package size. The dessert will contain added sugar, more carbohydrates, and additional calories, so remember to recalculate the nutrition information for the ingredients you use.
Yes, flavored protein powder can work well in this mousse. Vanilla pairs nicely with strawberry, cherry, orange, lemon, and lime Jello. Avoid strongly flavored powders that compete with the Jello, and keep in mind that sweetened protein powder may make the finished mousse overly sweet.
Yes, nonfat Greek yogurt can be used instead of full-fat Greek yogurt. It will reduce the fat and calorie content while providing a similar amount of protein, but the mousse may taste slightly tangier and have a less rich, creamy texture. Full-fat Greek yogurt produces the creamiest result.
Plant-based protein powders absorb liquid differently and may make the mousse thicker, grainier, or less smooth. Since results vary significantly among brands and protein blends, use plant-based protein powder only if you are willing to experiment with the amount. For the most reliable texture, use the whey protein powder recommended in the recipe.

Equipment
Ingredients
- 3 ounces Sugar Free Cherry Jello
- 1 cup Water, Between 122F-144F
- 10 oz Full-Fat Greek Yogurt
- 1 scoops NOW unflavored whey, (or any other unflavored protein powder)
Instructions
- Heat the water. Heat 1 cup of water until it is very warm but not actively boiling. 122F to 144F is ideal. The water must be hot enough to dissolve the gelatin completely.
- Dissolve the Jello. Empty the sugar-free Jello mix into a medium mixing bowl. Pour the warm water over it and whisk for 2 minutes, or until the powder is fully dissolved and no visible granules remain. Do not rush this step, since undissolved gelatin can create a grainy texture.
- Let the mixture rest. Allow the dissolved Jello mixture to sit for about 5 minutes while you measure the Greek yogurt and protein powder. It should remain liquid but should not be extremely hot when the yogurt is added.
- Add the remaining ingredients. Add the Greek yogurt and unflavored whey protein powder to the bowl.
- Blend until smooth. Use a hand mixer or whisk vigorously for about 2 minutes to blend the ingredients until completely smooth, creamy, and lightly aerated. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed so no pockets of yogurt or protein powder remain.
- Portion the mousse. Divide the mixture evenly among four small ramekins or dessert cups that are at least 4 ounces each.
- Chill until set. Refrigerate the mousse for at least 1 hour, or until it is chilled and firm enough to hold its shape. Thicker portions may require additional chilling time.
- Serve. Enjoy the mousse cold. If desired, top each serving with homemade sugar-free whipped cream, fresh berries, or a spoonful of Greek yogurt.
