If you're a fan of crispy, flavorful onion petals that are easy to make and better than what you'd find at any restaurant, you’re in for a treat! These Air Fryer Onion Petals are golden, crispy, and packed with flavor.
Peel the onion and cut it in half. Place each half flat side down and slice it into about 1/2-inch thick slices. Then, separate the slices into individual "petals" or rings, discarding any small or thin layers.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. In a separate bowl, beat the egg with the milk to create a smooth wet mixture.
Dip each onion petal into the wet mixture, making sure it’s well-coated, then transfer it to the dry mixture. Press gently to ensure that the flour mixture sticks to the onion. Shake off any excess flour. Repeat this process for all the onion petals.
Place the coated onion petals in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Be sure not to overcrowd the basket so that the air can circulate and cook the petals evenly. If your air fryer is smaller, you may need to cook them in batches. Lightly spray the onion petals with cooking spray or drizzle a small amount of olive oil over them to help them crisp up during cooking.
Air fry them at 375°F for 8-10 minutes, flipping them halfway through the cooking time for an even, golden brown color.
